Where neodymium magnets are used in significant quantities
Ten application pages show installation locations and documented magnet quantities derived from measurements, manufacturer statements, reproducible calculations or specialist literature. The relevant system boundary is stated directly alongside each value.

From wind power to industrial servo motors
The design, model, power rating and system boundary determine the actual magnet mass. A product category alone establishes neither the presence of NdFeB nor a fixed quantity.

Wind power
3,250 kg – 9,750 kgNdFeB per 5- to 15-MW reference turbine
In the permanent-magnet generator, typically as magnet segments on the rotor. The drivetrain and generator designs determine whether the main generator contains any NdFeB.
Permanent-magnet MRI systems
1,700 kg – 3,000 kgNdFeB per confirmed permanent-magnet MRI scanner
In the scanner's large permanent-magnet system and its magnetic return yoke. The design must be identified unambiguously before any quantity is assumed.
Industrial drive
72 kgNdFeB in the 1.25-MW design studied
In the rotor or permanent-magnet coupling of the drive system studied. The design and system boundary must be established from the technical documentation.
Robotics
8.5 kg – 15 kgNdFeB per robot as a literature reference
Primarily in permanent-magnet servo motors on the axes, and potentially also in brakes, sensors and grippers. The robot's weight is not its magnet mass.
Electric car
1.9 kg – 2.5 kgNdFeB per vehicle or motor, depending on the source
In the rotor of a permanent-magnet synchronous motor or a related PM motor architecture. Additional small magnets elsewhere in the vehicle fall outside the system boundary of some studies.
Hybrid vehicle
1.216 kg – 1.995 kgNdFeB in the traction system examined
In the rotors of the traction motor and generator, such as MG2 and MG1. The specific hybrid architecture determines the number and mass.Industrial pump
0.35 kgNdFeB per pump as a literature factor
In the rotor of a permanent-magnet motor or in a magnetic coupling. The pump, motor and coupling must be treated as separate system boundaries.
Air conditioning & heat pumps
0.325 kgNdFeB per unit as a literature factor
They may be found in variable-speed permanent-magnet compressors and in fan and pump drives. The refrigerant and disposal system must be handled separately.
E-bike & pedelec
0.27 kg – 0.35 kgNdFeB per drive as a literature reference
In the rotor of a hub or mid-drive motor. In a hub motor, the permanent magnets are arranged in a ring on the rotating housing around the stator.
Servo & industrial motor
0.175 kgNdFeB per motor as a literature factor
As segment, arc or embedded magnets in the rotor of a permanent-magnet servo motor. Encoders and brakes may contain additional small magnets.
