650 kg NdFeB per MW × 5 MW; upper calculation example: 15 MW × 650 kg/MW.
Rank 01 · NdFeB application
Wind turbine with direct-drive PMSG
In the permanent-magnet generator, typically as magnet segments on the rotor. The drivetrain and generator designs determine whether the main generator contains any NdFeB.

These are calculated values for a documented generator topology, not a manufacturer's bill of materials, and they cannot be applied to every wind turbine.
Original application & recovery
Where magnets are located in wind turbines
Its position within the device helps with identification, but does not in itself establish the alloy, weight or eligibility for purchase.
Location within the equipment
In the permanent-magnet generator, typically as magnet segments on the rotor. The drivetrain and generator designs determine whether the main generator contains any NdFeB.
System boundary
NdFeB per 5- to 15-MW reference turbine. Foreign parts, housings, shafts, back irons, supports and other device components are not automatically included in the magnet mass.
Record before submitting an enquiry
- Document the turbine type, rated capacity and generator design
- Do not dismantle the rotor or generator assembly without a plan
- Clarify the project parties, decommissioning status and transport arrangements in advance
