Broken magnets, rejects, and sawing or grinding residues may be concentrated material streams. The process stage, medium, moisture and foreign materials determine whether they can be assessed.

Material identification requires evidence

Magnetic force, colour, coating or geometry alone are insufficient. Documentation, origin and, where appropriate, suitable analysis determine the material classification.

Offer separately sorted material rather than mixed lots

Block and rectangular magnets

When offering loose block and rectangular magnets or cleanly separated lots for sale, state the dimensions, number of items, total weight, coating and origin.

Ring magnets

Ring magnets and magnets with a bore are assessed by their outer and inner diameters, height, coating and documented material family.

Disc and cylinder magnets

Disc and cylindrical shapes cannot be identified as NdFeB by appearance alone. Documentation, dimensions, how consistently the lot is sorted and origin are relevant to the initial assessment.

Segment and arc magnets

Rotor segments and arc magnets are used in motors and generators. Loose segments and complete rotors require different system boundaries.
