Rotor segments and arc magnets are used in motors and generators. Loose segments and complete rotors require different system boundaries.

Block and rectangular magnets

When offering loose block and rectangular magnets or cleanly separated lots for sale, state the dimensions, number of items, total weight, coating and origin.

Ring magnets

Ring magnets and magnets with a bore are assessed by their outer and inner diameters, height, coating and documented material family.

Disc and cylinder magnets

Disc and cylindrical shapes cannot be identified as NdFeB by appearance alone. Documentation, dimensions, how consistently the lot is sorted and origin are relevant to the initial assessment.

Describe dismantled hard-drive magnets, actuator assemblies and sorted IT returns separately, distinguishing the magnet, steel back iron and the status of any data-bearing media.
