Samarium is a key constituent of samarium-cobalt magnets. SmCo is a distinct magnet family and, for purchasing purposes, must be clearly distinguished from NdFeB, ferrite, AlNiCo and elemental samarium.

A specific proportion cannot be inferred from appearance, application or magnet grade.

Samarium is a key constituent of samarium-cobalt magnets. SmCo is a distinct magnet family and, for purchasing purposes, must be clearly distinguished from NdFeB, ferrite, AlNiCo and elemental samarium.
An SmCo magnet is not a batch of neodymium magnets, nor is it a lot of samarium metal or samarium oxide.
Batch documentation, manufacturer data or suitable analysis must relate to the specific lot.
Total magnet mass, assembly mass and the mass of the individual element are different quantities.
Form, origin, condition, net magnet mass and potential recovery route are assessed first.
